Policies and Procedures

Policy for the conduct of research at the University of Maine is established and administered by the University System Office and by the President's Office, either through policy manuals or records of official communications concerning specific policies.  Below is a list of documents that address issues encountered frequently during the course of conducting research. If further explanation is necessary, or if a situation arises that does not appear to be covered here, please contact our office so that a solution/decision can be reached that best represents the position of the University.

NSF

NSF has released a new Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide effective June 1, 2007.  Under the new guidelines, “General-purpose equipment, such as a personal computer and office furnishings, are NOT eligible for support unless primarily or exclusively used in the actual conduct of scientific research”.  There have also been changes in acceptable fonts for grant submissions.  PIs submitting proposals may use an Arial, Helvetica, Palatino (Mac users), Palatino Linotype (Windows users), Computer Modern (TeX only), or Georgia typeface.  Please use the link above to download the new guidelines and review them carefully.
